How has attending an HBCU set you up for success?
Attending an HBCU has been a significant part in my success by providing opportunities for me academically. I am surrounded by academic excellence and cultural pride every day. The unique combination of purpose, hard work and alignment has equipped me with the confidence, resilience, and leadership skills needed to excel in my professional endeavors.
What inspired you to apply for the "Celebrating Fashion Future" program?
I applied because as I am a long time lover of Steve Madden. I see fashion as a powerful force for change, blending creativity, culture, and advocacy. I want to contribute to the future of fashion by pushing the industry norms while staying true to my purpose within fashion.
What drives you? Share your passions, values, or a defining experience that shaped who you are today.
I’m driven by a commitment to sustainability, individuality, and finding a solution. A defining moment for me was launching LANIMÉ, where I saw firsthand how fashion can be both artistic and impactful. Seeing people connect with my designs fuels my dedication to redefining luxury. I value creativity, community, and purpose—using fashion as a tool for change and self-expression.
How do you see yourself as part of Fashion's future? What unique perspective or contribution will you bring to the industry?
As a fashion design student and entrepreneur, I’m committed to bridging gaps within the industry. I bring a unique perspective by intersecting fashion and sociology. Fashion’s future lies in ethical practices, advocacy, and storytelling, and I aim to push those boundaries through LANIMÉ. By blending traditional techniques with modern design, I want to create pieces that feel both timeless and “ahead of its time”.
I also see myself mentoring the next generation of young creatives, ensuring that inclusivity and sustainability remain at the core of the industry.
What excites you about the intersection of entrepreneurship and corporate careers, and how do you see yourself navigating both worlds?
I love the dynamic nature of entrepreneurship—the freedom to think outside the box, work at your own pace to build a brand, and shape a vision. At the same time, corporate careers offer structure, resources, and industry connections that can aid in my growth.
Navigating both worlds allows me to create a balance between creativity and strategy, ensuring long-term impact.
How has this program helped you grow personally and what's one insight you're taking with you for the future?
This program has expanded my understanding of the fashion industry’s evolving culture. The biggest insight I’m taking away is the power of collaboration. Executing a concept isn’t just about individual vision; it’s about engaging with a community of like-minded creatives and industry leaders to bring that vision to life. I now feel more equipped to scale my own business one day with both artistic integrity and strategic growth.
