How has attending an HBCU set you up for success?
Attending an HBCU has taught me to advocate for myself, stay consistent in my goals, and turn ideas into action. I’ve learned to be persistent when communicating with administration and professors—a skill that will serve me for life. My HBCU reinforced that success takes time, shaping me into a harder worker. I’ve also gained an understanding of logistics, breaking big ideas into smaller steps to make tasks more manageable. All of these traits will set me up for future success.
What inspired you to apply for the "Celebrating Fashion Future" program?
I was inspired to apply for the "Celebrating Fashion's Future" program because of its focus on e-commerce. As a fashion design major, my education is tailored to progress me creatively and technically. I wanted to branch out and get a taste of the business side of the fashion world. I was also drawn to the idea of being able to learn about the inner workings of Steve Madden, business wise and creatively.
What drives you? Share your passions, values, or a defining experience that shaped who you are today.
People are my driving force. While I sometimes find myself seeking validation from others, it stems from my deep love for connection and community. I value genuine, thoughtful relationships and take pride in creating spaces where people, myself included, feel free to be their truest selves. I cherish memories, literature, old friends, new friendships, family, and the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood. Community service holds a special place in my heart because giving back is an extension of love. At my core, nothing matters more to me than love, legacy, and the moments that shape us.
How do you see yourself as part of Fashion's future? What unique perspective or contribution will you bring to the industry?
I envision myself creatively directing and curating marketing strategies, campaigns, and editorial shoots that capture and immortalize today’s fashion—preserving our era for future generations to study, appreciate, and evolve. Beyond aesthetics, I aim to bring a deep awareness of legacy, history, and the responsibility to create a more inclusive and supportive space for the next generation. Through my work, I will ensure that fashion not only reflects our culture but also serves as a bridge between the past, present, and future.
What excites you about the intersection of entrepreneurship and corporate careers, and how do you see yourself navigating both worlds?
The intersection of entrepreneurship and corporate careers excites me because it blends creativity with structure, allowing for both innovation and stability. I see myself leveraging corporate experience to gain industry knowledge, leadership skills, and resources while applying an entrepreneurial mindset to drive change and create unique opportunities. With my background in fashion design and photography, I aim to merge business strategy with creative vision, building a brand while excelling in a corporate role. By balancing both worlds, I’ll cultivate versatility, financial independence, and a lasting impact in the creative industry.
How has this program helped you grow personally and what's one insight you're taking with you for the future?
This program has been instrumental in my personal growth, exposing me to new ideas, career paths, and inspiring individuals who have expanded my perspective. It has reinforced the value of versatility, showing me that I don’t have to limit myself to a single career or passion. One key insight I’m taking with me is that I can thrive in multiple spaces—embracing my diverse skills and interests rather than feeling pressured to choose just one. My future isn’t confined to a single path; instead, it’s a dynamic journey where all my passions can coexist and flourish.
