How has attending an HBCU set you up for success?

Attending an HBCU is the personification of the phrase “iron sharpens iron”. Being surrounded by so many ambitious and talented black students on a daily basis breathed life into me and I understood that if I wanted to see any success on campus I had to rise to the standard of excellence that Howard students set. Essentially, competing and collaborating with my peers in different on campus settings for the last four years developed me exponentially as a professional, individual, and creative. If I found success at Howard the open world will be my oyster.

How are you looking to contribute to the professional world upon graduation?

I want to contribute open mindedness and individuality. My open mindedness has allowed me to develop a worldview that is less biased; but allows influence from different people and different cultures. I believe that with this understanding I can help make the professional world a safer space. When it comes to my individuality I want to be my genuine self in the professional world. I know a lot of people enter corporate spaces and code switch but I rather not. I will show that I can be my authentic self and still be professional and personable.

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to be a creative director. My love for art has grown tenfold the last few years, and my love for creating art is immeasurable. It is my dream to travel the world creating art in different mediums, in many countries, with all different kinds of people from different walks of life. I want to use my creative vision to not only capture the world through my perspective; but also to embody the world view of others.

How do you express your personal sense of style through fashion?

I am an anime nerd, an earthy spiritual artist, who likes working out. I combine my hobbies and curate my wardrobe through them. Everything from how I style and dye my locs, to my baggy pants is an expression of self. I like being free so generally I wear baggy clothes and have my hair down to show that as I walk my feet do not touch the earth, I walk on clouds and am high on life. That is the vibe I try to exude through my fashion.

What role will you play in the future of fashion?

In the future of fashion I believe I will play the conducting role. I may not be the one playing the instrument; but I have vision and I believe I can direct and lead talented instrumentalists to take their creative abilities to new heights. I believe in the fashion world I will be the creative director, I will give the broad overarching idea and that creatives around me will help my vision come to life.
