What inspired you to apply for the "Celebrating Fashion Future" program?
I appreciate the impact and purpose of Steve Madden in the industry and wanted to learn firsthand how I can contribute and learn to positively impact the future of Fashion.
What drives you? Share your passions, values, or a defining experience that shaped who you are today.
I’m driven by that 16 year old girl inside me who didn’t always want to see another day. Having days riddled with gloom to years have shaped me into the peaceful and ambitious woman I am today. I put in the self work, and now the ways I used to cope with difficulties in life (fashion design, painting, hairstyling, and creative direction) allow me to create income and opportunities for myself and those who look up to me.
How do you see yourself as part of Fashion's future?
I see myself as a renaissance woman. My mindset and creative expression is limitless and I plan to use my talents to build, execute, and expand creative ideas. Ultimately, creative direction is my goal. I don’t mind being a worker bee in whatever role is available and overall student of the game in the meantime.
How does your campus Black Retail Action Group (BRAG) create community and opportunity for students?
BRAG creates a safe space and community for HU students interested in the Fashion industry through monthly meetings, organizational bonding experiences, opportunities like CFF to help us gear up for the future.
How has attending an HBCU set you up for success?
Attending my HBCU has given me a sense of community and identity. Being surrounded by Black excellence has ensured my growth and confidence in both my heritage and future. My peers inspire me to keep up the good work even on some of my worst days. I will always be grateful for the space created for people that look like me.
