What inspired you to apply for the "Celebrating Fashion Future" program?

My desire and eagerness to grow in any opportunity that aligns with my post grad goals inspired me to apply for Celebrating Fashion’s Future program. I always look for ways to grow and make myself more marketable, sharpening my skillset.

What drives you? Share your passions, values, or a defining experience that shaped who you are today.

My passion and purpose lies within elevating the Black community into new spaces and paying homage to my history. Honoring my history by educating myself and new spaces only enriches how we celebrate and uplift fashion’s future. Additionally, my mother always inculcated in my siblings and I the importance of presentation. This translated to our presented style and the story you tell based off of external presentation. From childhood on I began valuing self expression and finding confidence through fashion. These two values tie in to who I am today and what I align myself with professionally and personally.

How do you see yourself as part of Fashion's future?

Within the future of fashion, I see myself reaching back to my community and showing by example and encouragement that it is possible to not only break into spaces but also elevate them through education and the valuable ideas we contribute.

How does your campus Black Retail Action Group (BRAG) create community and opportunity for students?

HU BRAG does a phenomenal job in connecting students with retailers and businesses professionals in fashion. Students across all majors have a space to share their love of fashion and have that quality community building exchange.

How has attending an HBCU set you up for success?

Attending Howard University School of Business was 100% the best choice in setting myself up for success. The School of Business offers an abundant amount of opportunities for students and vital knowledge from professors and professionals that have been in some of the rooms we are trying to advance to. Being at any HBCU gives you that once in a lifetime safe haven environment to truly uncover the parts of yourself that are often overlooked. Creativity and self confidence is built here at HBCUs setting young students apart and ready for success.
