What inspired you to apply for the "Celebrating Fashion Future" program?
I was inspired to apply again after participating in the program last year, where I gained meaningful experiences and built connections with students I may not have met otherwise. The opportunity to travel, complete a capstone project, and witness the creative process behind the website deepened my interest in fashion and storytelling even more. Visiting Atlanta and exploring Black history through the lens of the fashion and shoe market, while expanding HBCU connections with Clark Atlanta, was especially impactful. You never stop learning, and I’m eager to continue growing alongside Howard University students who share these passions in New York! (Especially HARLEM !!!)
What drives you? Share your passions, values, or a defining experience that shaped who you are today.
Jeremiah 29:11 ~ "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future". What drives me is my faith in God and the belief that He remembers the dreams I had as a little girl and continues to help them grow as I get older. I stay motivated by reflecting on those early dreams and recognizing how God has guided and sustained me through every stage of my life. Seeing His promises unfold reminds me that I am never alone in my journey. Knowing that God is cheering me on and placing opportunities in my path gives me purpose, confidence, excitement, clarity, and the determination to keep moving forward.
How do you see yourself as part of Fashion's future?
I see myself as part of fashion’s future by using style as a platform for storytelling, culture, and advocacy. While staying at the Renaissance Hotel in New York, I was surrounded by images and quotes from legends like Josephine Baker, Louis Armstrong, and Langston Hughes. Seeing how they turned their passions into platforms affirmed my belief that fashion, like art, can speak truth and open doors. I aim to honor that legacy by centering Black voices, history, and creativity—using personal style and storytelling to create space, spark conversation, and ensure more people who look like me are making the decisions behind the scenes and on the runway.
How does your campus Black Retail Action Group (BRAG) create community and opportunity for students?
Even with classes, clubs, work, and personal commitments, BRAG members make time to share opportunities and support one another! The group fosters a network where students uplift each other, sharing internships, creative experiences, and career resources. This culture of collaboration reminds us that we are not navigating our journeys alone and builds connections that extend beyond graduation. Being part of BRAG reinforces the value of collective growth, mentorship, and community, and I’m inspired to see each member thrive while creating opportunities for others to succeed alongside them.
